Enjoy Christmas and New Year in Sils Maria

Picture the morning after fresh snowfall in Sils Maria. The village lies quiet at 1,800 m between Lake Sils and the Fex valley, the ski bus stops on the Dorfplatz in front of the hotel, and 2 to 3 minutes later you are at the Furtschellas valley station. From there the slopes reach up to 3,303 m on Corvatsch, with gentle runs for first turns and long descents for those who want more.

When the lifts close, the valley slows down. A horse-drawn sleigh climbs into the Fex valley, cross-country skiers glide across the snow-covered plain towards the lake, winter paths follow the shore of Lake Sils, and between Christmas and New Year the Sinfonia Engiadina plays in Sils and the villages around it.

Christmas readings, two gala dinners, live music in the Schweizerhof Pub and a New Year's Eve gala fill the evenings, while the ski races and the Spengler Cup run on the big screen. Skiing over the holidays

The ski bus leaves from the Dorfplatz directly in front of the hotel and reaches the Furtschellas valley station in 2 to 3 minutes. From Furtschellas the lifts connect to Corvatsch, with 120 km of slopes up to 3,303 m. Bus and train travel in the Upper Engadin is free for guests staying 2 nights or more, and skis and boots stay in the hotel's ski room overnight. The programme, day by day

Thursday 24 December: Christmas Eve at the hotel

The evening begins with a Christmas reading and an aperitif for all guests, followed by the Christmas dinner, which opens with a large starter buffet.

Friday 25 December: Christmas Day

After a second Christmas reading, the hotel serves its festive Christmas gala dinner. At 21:00 the Christmas concert begins in the Schweizerhof Pub.

Saturday 26 December: live music and the Spengler Cup

Live music plays in the Schweizerhof Pub all evening. The 98th Spengler Cup starts in Davos today and runs until 31 December, and every game is shown on the big screen in the Pub.

Sunday 27 December: a day in the valley

Local carriage drivers take private sleigh rides into the Fex valley, which begins at the edge of the village. The nearest cross-country trail is 10 minutes on foot from the hotel, and the trails continue across the plain to Lake Sils and on towards Silvaplana and St. Moritz.

Monday 28 December: World Cup downhill and the first concerts

The men's World Cup downhill in Bormio is on the big screen in the Pub. The Sinfonia Engiadina opens its holiday concerts the same day, in Pontresina at 10:30 and in Zuoz at 20:30.

Tuesday 29 December: Sinfonia Engiadina in Sils

At 20:30 the orchestra plays in the Schulhaus Champsegl in Sils Baselgia, 0.6 km from the hotel. Szymon Nehring is the soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24, and Simon Gaudenz conducts Beethoven's Symphony No. 6. Tickets go on sale on 20 November. During the day, the men's World Cup super-G in Bormio runs on the big screen.

Wednesday 30 December: live music in the Pub

Live music plays in the Schweizerhof Pub all evening. The Sinfonia Engiadina gives its last holiday concert in Celerina at 20:30.

Thursday 31 December: New Year's Eve gala

The New Year's Eve gala begins with a champagne aperitif, followed by the gala dinner. Afterwards the dancing starts with live music in the Schweizerhof Pub, where the year comes to an end.

Friday 1 January: New Year's Day

Brunch runs until 11:00 and includes a Weisswurst breakfast. In the evening the hotel lays out a large rustic buffet with a Stubete, an evening of Swiss folk music.

Days at the hotel

While our new wellness area is being built, hotel guests have free entry to Ovaverva in St. Moritz, with wristbands at reception, and massages can be booked in the hotel. The new wellness area, with saunas, an indoor pool and an outdoor pool, opens in June 2027. In the evening the Restaurant Arvenstube serves Engadin specialities in an Arolla-pine room (restaurants and bars), and the Schweizerhof Pub shows the ski races and the Spengler Cup on the big screen.
