Coppa Romana 2027 - open-air curling in Silvaplana

The 58th Coppa Romana returns to Silvaplana from 10 to 13 January 2027, four days of open-air curling on natural ice a short ride from Hotel Schweizerhof in Sils Maria.
The event
The Coppa Romana is billed as the world's largest open-air curling tournament. Since 1986 it has been played on natural ice at the Sportzentrum Mulets in Silvaplana, where 76 teams from across Switzerland and beyond share one enormous sheet of ice. Entry has been capped at 76 teams for two decades, with a waiting list just as long, which tells you how hard-won a place on the ice is. The tournament opens on the Sunday evening with a welcome and the draw at the Silvaplana schoolhouse, then runs through to the finals on the Wednesday. Play sits under the Corvatsch and the peaks of the Upper Engadin, with the frozen lakes and low January light that make winter curling here a spectacle as much as a sport. Spectators are welcome rink-side, and the village restaurants and the tournament tent keep the mood warm between ends.

Plan your stay
Hotel Schweizerhof in Sils Maria makes an easy base for the Coppa Romana. Silvaplana is the next village down the valley, about ten minutes by car or a short hop on the Engadin Bus that stops beside the hotel, so you can follow a full day on the ice and still be back for dinner. If you are here for a ski week on Corvatsch or Furtschellas, an afternoon rink-side is a natural mid-week break, a change of pace that keeps you out in the winter air without a day on the slopes. Round it off at the restaurants and bars back at the hotel. Come and watch the curling with us in the Upper Engadin.
