Giandaplatta 2027 - open-air curling in Sils Maria

Curling Club Sils-Maria© - Curling winter

The 74th Giandaplatta is Sils Maria's own curling tournament, played on the open-air ice at Muot Marias in early January 2027, a few minutes on foot from Hotel Schweizerhof.

The event

The Giandaplatta is the tournament of the Curling Club Sils-Maria Engadin, played on natural ice at the Muot Marias sports ground in the middle of the village. It is a Sils institution: the 2027 edition is the 74th, which puts its roots back in the 1950s. The exact January dates are set once the club opens its 2026/27 season in December, and recent editions have run over a weekend in early to mid January. Teams play out on the open-air sheets with the village and the Fex valley around them, and the club, the school and the local restaurants all pitch in, which gives the weekend the feel of a village gathering as much as a competition. Because it happens on the hotel's doorstep, it is the easiest of the Engadin's January tournaments to drop in on.

Plan your stay

Hotel Schweizerhof sits only a short walk from the Muot Marias ice, so the Giandaplatta is as easy as stepping out of the door. On a ski week above Sils on Furtschellas or Corvatsch, it is the simplest possible rest-day outing: a few ends in the cold, then straight back to the hotel, no travel to speak of. Warm up over lunch or dinner at the restaurants and bars. Come and enjoy the village's own curling weekend with us in Sils Maria.
