Swiss National Day in Sils: Celebrate Together

Join the festivities in Sils-Maria this 1 August as we celebrate Swiss pride with music, color, and alpine community spirit.

Join the festivities this Swiss National Day in Sils-Maria with a day full of tradition, music, family fun, and local flavor. Whether you’re crafting lanterns with the kids, listening to Engadin musicians, or enjoying our special dinner menu at Hotel Schweizerhof, this is the perfect way to experience true Swiss community spirit in the heart of the Alps.

From 14:00 until late into the evening, the village transforms into a celebration of everything Swiss—festive, musical, and beautifully local.

On the Dorfplatz, a colourful children’s village comes to life with games, a puppet theatre, craft tents, and even a visit from clown Chi Chi. Kids can craft their own lanterns for the evening parade while enjoying activities like croquet, reading tents, and more.

The cultural program includes:

  • Live brass music by the Musikgesellschaft Silvaplana
  • Parade by the Silser Treichlergruppe
  • Concert by local artist Cinzia Regensburger
  • Puppet theatre in the open church
  • Folk singing and a dramatic reading imagining a conversation between Annemarie Schwarzenbach and Friedrich Nietzsche
  • Children’s lantern parade to the traditional 1 August bonfire at the sports centre

Entry is free for all, and shuttle buses and organized parking are available.
