Swiss National Day in Sils 2026 - celebrate 1 August

On Saturday 1 August 2026, Sils Maria celebrates Swiss National Day from morning to late evening, a village festival known locally as the Festa dals 1. Avuost a Segl. Hotel Schweizerhof stands a short walk from the middle of it.
The event
Organised by Sils Tourismus, the celebration runs from 09:30 to about 22:30 around Via da Marias in the village centre, and admission is free. The day builds from music and family entertainment into the evening's traditions: a parade, concerts by local artists, puppet theatre, folk singing, and the children's lantern parade that leads to the 1 August bonfire. Wear something red and white or bring a flag; nobody will mind.
A note on fireworks
The municipality of Sils bans fireworks year round to protect the quiet and the wildlife of the valley, National Day included. The bonfire and lantern parade carry the evening instead, and the celebration loses nothing for it.
Around the village
Everything happens within a few hundred metres of the hotel. At Hotel Schweizerhof itself, the day brings an outdoor fire on the terrace with cervelats and stick bread, and a festive dinner menu in the evening, so you can drift between village and hotel as the mood takes you.
