Once a year, Wanderwege Graubünden invites hikers of every level to discover a different corner of the canton together, free of charge. For its 21st edition, on Sunday 27 September 2026, the Graubünden Wandertag comes to the Schanfigg, the valley that stretches from Chur up to Arosa, right on Altein's doorstep.
The event
The Wandertag is a single day of free, guided hiking through one chosen region of Graubünden, and in 2026 that region is the Schanfigg. Several routes set off through the valley's Walser villages, from gentle valley walks to more demanding ridge hikes, so there is a fit for first-time walkers and seasoned hikers alike. Each route is led by an experienced mountain guide from Wanderwege Graubünden, who sets the pace and shares the history and nature of the valley along the way.
Routes typically pass through villages such as Peist, Langwies, Medergen and the Fondei valley, taking in the mix of open pasture, larch woodland and far-reaching mountain views that gives the Schanfigg its character in early autumn. Most routes finish at the Kulturhuus in Langwies, where walkers gather for a relaxed Zvieri together at the end of the day. Participation is free and open to everyone, and the relaxed, sociable atmosphere is as much part of the day as the walking itself.
