Once a year, Wanderwege Graubünden invites hikers of every level to discover a different corner of the canton together, free of charge. For its 21st edition, on Sunday, 27 September 2026, the Wandertag Graubünden comes to the Schanfigg, the valley that stretches from Chur up to Arosa, right on Altein's doorstep.
A free day of guided hiking
Several guided routes set off through the Schanfigg's Walser villages, from gentle valley walks to more demanding ridge hikes, each led by an experienced WWGR mountain guide. Routes typically pass through villages such as Peist, Langwies, Medergen and the Fondei valley, with most finishing at the Kulturhuus in Langwies for a relaxed Zvieri together. Participation is free and open to everyone, beginners and experienced hikers alike.
Good to know
Detailed route descriptions, timings and the official flyer are published by Wanderwege Graubünden at the end of July 2026. Sign-up is handled directly through the organiser's website, as places on each route are limited.
Altein sits at the head of the Schanfigg valley, making it a natural base the night before or after the Wandertag. Arrive the day before, settle in, and start the morning refreshed before heading down the valley to join a route.
