Sunrise Hikes to Weisshorn

Sun rising over hazy mountain silhouettes during an early-morning hike in Arosa

On five Wednesday mornings between 15 July and 12 August 2026, a guided sunrise hike climbs the Aroser Weisshorn to reach the summit just as the sun rises over the peaks of Arosa.

The event

This is a weekly summer series of early-morning hikes led by local guide Karin Bächinger. Each hike sets off in the quiet dark of the small hours and works its way up to the summit of the Aroser Weisshorn, arriving in time for the sunrise. The route covers about 6.5 km with 904 metres of ascent and takes roughly 2.5 hours to the top, where a 360-degree alpine panorama opens up as the light comes over the mountains.

The reward is one of the most memorable views in the region: the sun breaking over layer after layer of peaks, with the valley still in shadow far below. The start times are deliberately early and shift a little through the season as sunrise moves later, so the group is always in place before first light. It is a real mountain outing rather than a stroll, so sure footing and a head for early starts help, but the pace is guided and the summit is well within reach for anyone comfortable on their feet. Warm layers matter even in summer, as the pre-dawn air on the mountain is cold and the wind can be sharp at the top.

Bring your own food and drink for the hike. The guiding takes you up and back down, and the descent brings you into the day with the whole morning still ahead.
