Ski holidays in Wengen with children

Children and adults skiing beside a surface lift on a sunny slope in Wengen, with chalets and snow-capped peaks behind

Ski holidays in Wengen with children start at the station. Wengen is car-free, the train from Lauterbrunnen climbs to the village in 11 minutes, and Victoria Lauberhorn, Wengen is one minute on foot from the platform. The hotel is ski-in, ski-out, with the ski run ending about 20 m from the hotel, and the Männlichen cable car leaves about 50 m away. This guide covers the family rooms, where children learn to ski, what a child ski pass costs in the 2026/27 season, sledging and skating for the afternoons, and the pool and dinner arrangements for the evening.

Getting to car-free Wengen with children

Wengen is car-free, so families arrive by train. From Zurich main station the journey to Wengen takes about 2 hours 40 minutes, and from Zurich Airport about 10 minutes longer. The last leg is the mountain railway from Lauterbrunnen, which climbs to Wengen in 11 minutes. Families who come by car leave it in the public parking garage at Lauterbrunnen station and take the train from there.

Victoria Lauberhorn, Wengen is one minute on foot from Wengen station, and the hotel takes your luggage up from the station when you arrive. Between the hotel, the ski school and the ice rink, children walk on streets without cars.

Ski-in, ski-out, 50 m from the Männlichen cable car

Ski school and children's areas in Wengen

The Snowgarden in the village centre

Young children can take their first turns in the Snowgarden, the children's area run by the Swiss Ski and Snowboard School Wengen in the centre of the village. Carpet lifts carry beginners up a gentle slope, and the school's mascot, Snowli, is part of the first days on snow.

Group and private lessons

The Swiss Ski and Snowboard School Wengen runs group and private lessons for children. Altitude Ski School teaches children from age 3: its Eisbären (Polar Bears) groups are for ages 3 to 5, and its Kids Club is for ages 6 to 15. Each school sets its own lesson times and prices for the season, so book directly with the school before you travel, especially for the Christmas and February holiday weeks.

Ski passes for children in the Jungfrau Ski Region

Wengen is part of the Jungfrau Ski Region, and one pass covers the whole region. In the 2026/27 season a 1-day pass for children aged 6 to 15 costs CHF 38 and a 7-day pass CHF 204. On Saturdays, up to 3 children aged 6 to 15 receive a free day pass when an adult buys a 1-day or afternoon pass at list price for themselves.

Adult rates rise on peak dates, from 19 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 and from 30 January to 28 February 2027. Passes are sold at hotel reception. Jungfrau Railways sets the prices and may adjust them during the season, so check the current fares on jungfrau.ch before you go.

Sledging and ice skating off the slopes

The Fox Run is the sledge run that ends in Wengen. It starts at Wengernalp and runs 4.5 km down to the village, finishing near Wengen station, one minute from the hotel. On the way down the run passes under the railway line through a tunnel. The Wengernalp Railway takes you and your sledge back up from the same station, so a family can repeat the run as often as the children want. We recommend helmets for children. Our page on sledging in Wengen lists the runs and where to hire a sledge.

Wengen's open-air ice rink is in the village centre. Opening times and skate hire are on our page about ice skating in Wengen.
