A spa day in Wengen

Media gallery

The spa at Victoria Lauberhorn is the largest wellness area in Wengen, and it is built for a whole day rather than a quick dip before dinner. The wellness area and the fitness area are two separate spaces covering 1000 m2 between them, so a day here can begin on the machines and end flat on a lounger in the panoramic relaxation room several hours later. Wengen is car free, so you arrive on foot from the station with nothing to park. What follows is how to time a spa day in Wengen, what it costs if you are not staying, and the order that works best after a day on the hill.

When to come

The wellness area and the sauna both run 09:00 to 21:00, daily. The fitness area keeps longer hours, 07:00 to 22:00, which leaves an early window before the wellness area opens and a late one after it closes; skiers and runners who want a session before breakfast use the first of those, and the machines are usually free. The water is quietest mid morning, once the first trains have carried most guests up towards Männlichen and Kleine Scheidegg, and again in the last hour before closing. Children may use the wellness area throughout the regular hours, so families do not have to plan around a narrow slot.

Access if you are not staying here

Access is complimentary for hotel guests. Everyone else, villagers included, comes in through the Victoria Fitness Club: a day pass covering gym and spa is CHF 45 for adults and CHF 26 for children under 15, and bathrobe and slipper hire is CHF 12 for anyone arriving with a day pack rather than a suitcase. Passes and memberships are arranged at reception. The full facility list and the treatment menu sit on the wellness and spa page.

The order that works after a hike

Come off the Panorama Trail or a long day of skiing and the sequence matters more than the hours you put in. Swim loosely in the indoor pool first to move the blood through tired legs, then take the sauna or the steam room, cool down properly, and only then sit in the outdoor whirlpool with the peaks in front of you. Finish in the relaxation room for roughly as long as the heat took. Treatments belong at the end of that chain rather than the start, when the muscles have already softened.

Plan around the 09:00 opening if you want the pool close to empty, or around early evening if you would rather arrive warm off the hill and let the day fade in the heat. The wellness area closes at 21:00 and the fitness area an hour later, which leaves room for dinner between the two. If a spa afternoon is following a morning of winter hiking, a word at reception the day before is worth it in high season, when treatment slots go first.
