Wengen has no cars. It has a cog railway, a promenade under the Jungfrau and more than 200 kilometres of piste above it. Our front door opens onto all three.

You are already at the lift
The hotel sits on the village promenade beside Wengen station. Ski train, cableway and rental shop are all within a short walk in ski boots, which is the only walk that really counts at half past eight in the morning.
A spa built for a full week of skiing
A thousand square metres of wellness and fitness: a 33 °C pool with hydromassage, a 35 °C outdoor whirlpool under the peaks, sauna, steam room and a panoramic relaxation room. Guests pay nothing extra.
No cars, anywhere
Wengen sits at 1,274 metres and no private car can reach it. What you hear in the evening is the cog railway, boots on snow and not much else. It is the reason people come back.
Everything within fifty metres
Victoria Lauberhorn stands at Dorfstrasse 1, on the car-free promenade that runs the length of Wengen. Step out of the door and the station is in front of you.
That matters more than it sounds. In a car-free village the distance between your room and the first chairlift is measured in minutes on foot, not in shuttle timetables or car parks.

Three sectors above one village
Wengen sits inside the Jungfrau Ski Region, which spreads across three connected sectors and more than 200 kilometres of piste. From the village you ride up to Männlichen by cableway or take the Wengernalpbahn to Kleine Scheidegg.
The high ground is what makes the season reliable. It runs from the beginning of December to the end of April. Piz Gloria tops out at 2,970 metres, and the longest continuous descent runs 12 kilometres from Oberjoch down to Grindelwald.
A Jungfrau Ski Region pass covers all three sectors. A more restricted lift card is available if you plan to stay in Grindelwald-Wengen.
On Free Slope Saturday, an adult buying a day or afternoon ticket at list price takes up to three children aged 6 to 15 onto the slopes free.

You arrive by train. That is rather the point.
No private car reaches Wengen. You leave it in Lauterbrunnen and take the Wengernalp cog railway up through the trees, which takes about fourteen minutes and is the best introduction to the week you could ask for.
Parkhaus Lauterbrunnen sits at the station and holds 940 cars at CHF 18 a day, with reducing rates for longer stays. It fills up in peak winter, so book ahead. If you would rather not carry your skis from the station, ask us and we will collect your luggage.

Wengen's largest wellness area
A thousand square metres, and not a franc extra for anyone staying with us.
Most alpine hotels treat the spa as a courtesy. Ours is the second reason people book. The indoor pool holds 33 °C and carries hydromassage jets, neck showers and a wild water channel. Outside, a 35 °C whirlpool sits open to the peaks, which is a strange and very good place to be at four in the afternoon in February.
Sauna, steam room and a panoramic relaxation room complete the wellness side. Treatments use the PHYT'S certified organic line and are booked at reception, from a 25 minute partial massage to a couples massage in the double treatment room.

Thirty-four rooms face the Jungfrau
The house has stood here since 1897 and holds 120 rooms. Thirty-four of them look south to the Jungfrau. The Panoramic categories add a balcony, which in this village means you can stand outside in the morning and hear the first train climbing.
The rest look towards the Männlichen or over the village and its church. There is no wrong side of this building, only different mountains.

Half board that lets you change your mind
Tell reception the day before and your half board becomes a voucher for the same value, spent wherever you like in the house.
Lobhörner Restaurant
The half board room, looking out to the Jungfrau and the Lauterbrunnen valley. Dinner is a menu of choice, with a salad and dessert buffet once a week.
Pasta & More
Italian, à la carte, with a terrace. Half board guests can eat here instead with a credit of CHF 15 a head, CHF 10 for a paying child. Reserve at reception before midday.

Sixty seats and a fireplace, for the hour between coming off the mountain and sitting down to dinner.
For the days you do not ski
Sledging
The Fox Run drops back to the village alongside the Lauberhorn course. Over twenty sledge routes run across the wider Jungfrau region, from a gentle four kilometres to the fifteen kilometre Faulhorn descent.
Snowshoeing
Quiet larch forest above the village, with the Leiterhorn trail leading to a viewpoint over the Lauterbrunnen valley. The mountain schools run guided walks, including moonlit ones on clear nights.
Winter hiking
A network of prepared trails marked with pink signs. Wengen to Allmend is gentle, Wengen to Mettlenalp asks more, and the Panorama Trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg is the one people photograph.
Ice rink and curling
An open-air rink in the middle of the village with skate hire on site, and a covered curling hall beside it running weekly lessons.
Cross-country
Twelve kilometres of classic and skating track follow the Weisse Lütschine along the valley floor between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg, a short train ride down.
Jungfraujoch
The highest railway station in Europe at 3,454 metres, reached from Kleine Scheidegg. A whole day, and worth giving it a whole day.

When does the winter season run?
The winter season runs from the beginning of December to the end of April. The highest sector, Mürren-Schilthorn, holds its snow longest, so late-season weeks still ski well.
How do we get there without a car?
By rail to Interlaken Ost, then the train to Lauterbrunnen, then the Wengernalp cog railway up to Wengen, which takes about fourteen minutes. If you drive, leave the car at Parkhaus Lauterbrunnen by the station.
There is no hotel car park and no garage, because there is no road. Ask us and we will collect your luggage from Wengen station.
Is the spa included?
Yes. Hotel guests use the whole wellness area and the gym at no extra charge. Treatments and private whirlpool sessions are booked and paid separately at reception.
What are the check-in times?
Check-in from 15:00 to 23:00. Check-out between 07:00 and 11:00.
Reception is open 07:00 to 22:00 and the main entrance is locked overnight, so tell us if you are arriving late.
What is added to the bill?
City tax of CHF 4.30 per adult per night and CHF 2.20 per child aged 6 to 16, plus an accommodation tax of CHF 1.00 per person per night from age 16. Both are payable at the hotel. Dogs are CHF 25 a day.
Can we ski straight from the door?
Not quite, and we would rather say so. Wengen is a village, not a ski-in resort. What you get instead is a fifty metre walk to the station and the ski train, and twenty metres to rental, which in practice is faster than most slope-side hotels with a car park between you and the lift.
Come up the mountain by train.
