Swiss National Day 2026 in Wengen

CHF 99 per person

Saturday 1 August 2026: Swiss National Day lands on a weekend this year, and Wengen makes the most of it. The car-free village celebrates with folk music, a torchlight procession and bonfires on the surrounding peaks, and Hotel Victoria Lauberhorn hosts a Swiss buffet evening to match.

Around the village

Wengen Tourism publishes the full 1 August programme in the weeks before the event. Expect a daytime Federal Speech, alphorn and yodelling, a children's lantern walk and, after dusk, the traditional torchlight procession through the village. Bonfires are lit on the slopes around the Lauterbrunnen valley and fireworks are visible from many points along the village edge.

The evening at Hotel Victoria Lauberhorn

The celebration opens with a sparkling wine reception at 17:30, outdoors if the weather plays along. From 18:00 the buffet spreads across the whole ground floor, from the veranda to the bar and the fireplace lounge, with seating in Pasta and More, the Lobhörner restaurant, the bar and the garden. Jermaine and Gustav play live through the evening, outside in good weather and in Pasta and More otherwise. A photo corner with Swiss props and a small prize draw rounds it off.

On the buffet

Live stations anchor the evening: raclette with bacon, mixed pickles and potatoes, pasta finished in a Parmesan wheel, and suckling pig, Valais roast and Ticino roast carved to order. The warm buffet brings whole Alpine char, Zurich-style sliced veal, Älplermagronen, spaghetti e polpette, sliders and roasted vegetables. Barley soup, Aargau carrot soup and a full salad buffet open the meal; carrot cake, Engadine nut tart, caramel cream, fruit Wähe, tiramisu and a chocolate fountain close it. Sharp-eyed guests will find mini Bärli-Biberli from Appenzell hidden around the hotel.

The morning after

On Sunday 2 August, a long recovery breakfast runs until 11:00, with Swiss breakfast classics and regional products for a slow start to the day.
