Kultursommer Arosa

A summer of culture, right in the village
When the meadows around Arosa turn green again, the Kultursommer begins too. From June to October, concerts, theatre, readings, and talks turn the village and the scenic open-air Waldbühne into a stage for more than 100 events. During your stay at Altein, between June and September, you'll catch the heart of this programme: from the chamber music concert that opens the season to classical and folk evenings, theatre, and literary readings.
What's on
The programme is built on variety: classical concerts and Bergkirchli evenings, folk music and yodelling, theatre productions and literary readings, plus dedicated events for children. Many performances take place outdoors on the Waldbühne, others at the Bergkirchli or elsewhere in the village. If the weather turns, the event moves indoors at short notice. A sign near the path up to the Waldbühne, and the festival's website, will let you know roughly two hours before the show.
A few highlights from this year's programme
- Kammermusikfest zur Kultursommereröffnung – 4 July, 18:15 — the season-opening chamber music concert, with violinist Sebastian Bohren, recorder virtuoso Maurice Steger and harpsichordist Martin Zimmermann.
- "Grandhotel XY ungelöst" & "The Bear" by William Walton – 23, 25 & 26 July, 18:15 — Operetta Ardez's double bill on the Waldbühne, pairing a comic murder-mystery operetta with Walton's chamber opera.
- kapelle hägere & Yodelduett A-Stimmig – 29 July, 17:00 — regional folk music and yodelling.

For families
On several Mondays through the summer, the Waldbühne belongs to the children. Theatre groups, musicians, and puppeteers put on shows just for them, a regular fixture of the Kultursommer.
Good to know
Tickets are available in advance: CHF 20 for adults, CHF 15 for those up to 17. Children up to 12 accompanied by an adult get in free, and KulturLegi holders receive 50% off. The evening box office opens 30 minutes before each show starts.
From Altein, the venues are just a few minutes' walk away, a good reason to start or end your evening with a concert.
Worth noting: the full Kultursommer programme runs through to the end of October, beyond Altein's own season. You'll find the current schedule at arosakultur.ch.
