Winter in Arosa: ski, relax and indulge

Aerial winter view of the Altein hotel surrounded by the snowy village and mountains of Arosa

Winter 2026/27

From early December to early April, Arosa turns into one of the most complete winter bases in the Swiss Alps. The village sits at 1,775 m, high enough to hold snow from early December through to spring, and the slopes climb well above it. Hotel Altein puts you in the middle of the village, a short walk from the lifts, the wellness area and the evening lights. Whether you ski hard from first lift to last or treat the mountains as a backdrop for slow days, the season here rewards both.

The ski area

Arosa is linked with Lenzerheide to form one of the largest connected ski areas in the region, with around 225 km of slopes served by roughly 43 lifts. Runs suit every level, from wide beginner pistes above the village to long descents that drop hundreds of metres. The two resorts share a single ski pass, so a week here rarely repeats the same run.

When to come

Hotel Altein's winter season runs from 2 December 2026 to 3 April 2027. The village is at its liveliest over the Christmas and February holidays, while early December and late March are quieter, with shorter lift queues and softer light for photographs.

Beyond the slopes

Not every winter day has to be spent on skis. Arosa has cross-country trails, winter walking paths, sledging runs and an outdoor ice rink, all reachable from the village centre. Families travelling with young skiers will find a free ski school for children in the resort.

Rest and recovery at Hotel Altein

After a day in the cold, the 950 m2 wellness area at Hotel Altein is a good reason to head back early. It has an indoor pool, several saunas and a steam room. Upstairs, the rooftop bar and restaurant look out over the peaks, a quiet place to end the day with a drink and a warm plate.

Plan your winter stay

Hotel Altein sits in the centre of the village, close to the lifts and to everything the season has to offer, which makes it an easy base for a winter week in Arosa. The hotel team is happy to help with directions, transport and recommendations for your days on and off the snow. Come and stay with us for the winter.
