Arosa for Couples: Spa, Views and Quiet Time

Arosa sits at 1,800 metres in a quiet valley at the end of the road, surrounded by forest and peaks on every side. Originally known as a clean-air health destination since the late 19th century, the village has kept its calm, unhurried character. For couples looking to slow down together, a summer stay at Altein, Arosa puts spa time, gentle walks and mountain views within easy reach, without the crowds of better-known Swiss resorts.

Spa and Wellness at Altein
A couples trip to Arosa starts well at Altein's spa and wellness area. The outdoor pool is the centrepiece, heated and open through the summer months, with views across the valley that make a morning swim feel like an event. Sun beds line the terrace outside, a good spot to settle in with a book after lunch. Massage treatments are also available on site for those who want to make a proper half-day of it.
The pace here is deliberately slow. There is no rush to be anywhere, and that is part of the appeal. Spend a morning at the pool, walk into the village for coffee, come back for a massage. Arosa's clean mountain air, the very thing that first drew visitors here over a century ago, makes even sitting on a terrace feel restorative.

Lakeside Relaxation at Obersee and Untersee
Arosa's two village lakes, Obersee and Untersee, are just a few minutes on foot from Altein. These are not destinations that require hiking boots or a packed lunch. They are quiet spots at the heart of the village where couples can sit by the water, watch the reflections shift across the surface and let an afternoon pass without a plan.
Obersee is the larger of the two, ringed by a flat path and surrounded by open meadow. Untersee sits just below, slightly more tucked away. Both offer benches, shade and a feeling of being somewhere far removed from daily life, even though the village is steps away. On warm days, the swimming areas around Arosa make a refreshing option for a quick dip.

Two Easy Walks with Mountain Views
For couples who want to stretch their legs without a full day's commitment, two short walks from the village stand out.
Schwellisee Lake Walk
The walk to Schwellisee starts from Innerarosa and follows a gentle path through forest and open meadow to one of Arosa's most photogenic spots. The lake sits in a natural bowl with the Weisshorn rising behind it, perfectly still on calm mornings. The route is approximately 1.1 km one way, taking around 35 minutes at a relaxed pace. It is rated easy with minimal elevation gain, making it suitable for all fitness levels. Pack a picnic and find a spot on the grassy bank.
Eichhoernliweg (Squirrel Trail)
The Eichhoernliweg is a 2 km trail rated easy, with around 100 metres of elevation gain and a walking time of roughly 35 minutes. The path winds through forest near Maran, and the main draw is the red squirrels that live here in large numbers and are tame enough to approach. It is a lighthearted walk that feels more like a shared experience than exercise. Storyboards along the route tell the tale of the local squirrels, adding a gentle narrative to the stroll.
Both walks connect easily to a longer day of summer hiking around Arosa if the mood takes you, but they work perfectly as standalone morning outings.

Views from the Weisshorn
For the best panoramic view in the area without breaking a sweat, take the Weisshorn cable car from the village up to 2,653 metres. The summit terrace looks out over the Graubuenden Alps in every direction, with peaks stretching toward the horizon. On clear days the view extends well beyond the immediate valley.
The ride takes around 15 minutes each way. At the top, there is a restaurant if you want to linger over coffee, or simply find a bench and take in the silence. It is one of those places where standing together and looking at the same enormous view does more than conversation. A return ticket costs approximately CHF 42 per adult (check arosalenzerheide.swiss for current prices).
Where to Eat
Alpensand at Altein
The on-site restaurant at Altein serves woodfire pizza alongside a broader menu. The outdoor terrace faces the valley and catches the evening light, which makes dinner here feel more like a destination than a hotel convenience. For couples, it is an easy choice on evenings when you would rather not wander far.

Burestuebli
For something different, Burestuebli in the village centre serves traditional Swiss fondue and raclette in a cosy, wood-panelled setting. The menu is deliberately focused, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere is the kind of warm, candle-lit room that suits a slower evening. It complements rather than competes with Alpensand's offering, giving couples two distinct dining experiences within walking distance.
Plan Your Stay
Arosa's summer season runs from late June through September. The village is car-free in the centre, and most of what you will want to do is reachable on foot or by cable car. The Arosa Card, included with your stay at Altein, covers local transport and cable car access, keeping things simple.
For couples, two to three nights is enough to settle into the rhythm: a spa morning, a lakeside afternoon, a walk to Schwellisee, dinner at Alpensand, and a cable car ride to the Weisshorn. Longer stays leave room to explore further along Arosa's network of hiking trails or simply to do less.
