Jungfrau–Lauberhorn Uphill Run – Conquering the Legendary Course

In late March, Wengen’s famous Lauberhorn downhill ski course is tackled in reverse — on foot. The Jungfrau–Lauberhorn Uphill Run challenges runners to climb from the finish area in Innerwengen to the start hut at the top, covering steep ski slopes normally raced at high speed in winter.

Event Overview

Date: 29 March 2026
Part of the Jungfrau Marathon series, this race covers 4.48 kilometres with an ascent of 1,028 metres. Participants follow the exact route of the World Cup downhill but in the opposite direction, climbing past iconic sections like the Hundschopf and the Kernen-S. Both competitive runners and costumed fun participants take part, adding colour to the event.

What to Expect

The race starts at 10:30 in the morning, with spectators lining sections of the course to encourage the runners. At the summit finish, participants are greeted with panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The atmosphere is a mix of sporting challenge and springtime celebration.

Insider Tips for Visitors

  • The best vantage points are at Innerwengen for the start and Kleine Scheidegg for the finish
  • Wear warm clothing and good footwear if spectating on snow
  • Bring sunglasses and sunscreen — the spring sun can be strong at altitude
  • Arrive early to secure a good spot, especially at popular course sections

Combine with Other Activities in Wengen

Pair race day with a morning ski before watching the finish, or take the train to Kleine Scheidegg for lunch with a view. Late March often offers good spring skiing and quieter hiking trails.
