Trachtenfest on Männlichen

On Sunday 26 July 2026, from 11:00, the Trachtenfest brings Swiss national costume to the Männlichen summit, high above Wengen. Expect flag-throwing, folk music and dancing, yodelling and alphorn, set against the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The event

The Trachtenfest gathers Swiss national costumes from across the country in one place, a display of regional dress that changes from canton to canton. Around the costumes runs a full programme of living tradition: Fahnenschwingen, the flag-throwing that sends painted flags spinning through the air, folk music and dancing, and yodelling and alphorn carrying across the summit. It is Swiss folk culture at close range, held where the mountains do the backdrop for free.

Up on Männlichen

Männlichen rises directly above Wengen, and the Wengen-Männlichen cable car climbs to the summit in a few minutes from the valley station by the hotel. The festival takes place on the open ground at the top, with the north faces of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau lined up across the horizon. The summit terrain is flat and easy to move around, so you can follow the flag-throwers and the music without much walking.
