Saturday 1 August 2026, a Swiss national celebration in the heart of the Jungfrau region.
Spend Switzerland's national day in Wengen, where alpine tradition meets quiet mountain charm. The car-free village marks the occasion with folk music, speeches and an evening procession, while bonfires light up the surrounding peaks of the Lauterbrunnen valley and fireworks crown the night. At Victoria Lauberhorn, a Faern collection resort, we add a festive buffet, live music in the garden and an unhurried breakfast the next morning, so guests can enjoy the whole programme without leaving the village.
Around the village
The full Wengen 1 August programme is published in the weeks before the event by Wengen Tourism. Expect a daytime Federal Speech, alphorn and yodelling, a children's lantern walk and, after dusk, the traditional torchlight procession through the village. Across the region, mountain bonfires are lit on the slopes around the valley and fireworks are visible from many points along the village edge and the terraces above.
